TRAINING DAY
I feel like the "Stand on That Quote” pixel stick shot is my most underrated and misunderstood photo I’ve ever created. Right behind that, however, comes this one.
I can not even begin to guesstimate how many times I pulled my car over after work, at this one location, tryin to get this one shot.
Now don’t get me wrong, this is a composite image. The helicopters would never fly that close to each other (although they do make it interesting). So they were not all in that one spot at that one time. But I did capture each chopper, one by one, in that same location, and then threaded the pics together to create this image.
It absolutely flopped when I shared it on Instagram and I wasn’t really sure why. I began to consider that if you haven’t been to Myrtle and haven’t seen the Wax Museum that maybe people didn’t suspect that the image is life-size? Like it’s a miniature in a museum or something? Or even real at all?
Wait - your town doesn’t have a 60 foot building with a monkey climbing the side?
Well it is real, and so are the helicopters, which take off from right behind the museum. So I spent several evenings trying to find the right spot to frame everything, and possibly get more than one helicopter in the shot. On this particular day, they not only lined up, but had an ominous background from a storm rolling in - couldn’t be me, I only go up there on perfect days.
