BEYOND VAN GOGH

I had the opportunity to see the immersive art experience “Beyond Van Gogh” during its run at the North Charleston Coliseum and of course brought my camera along to see what I could come up with. It’s a 360 degree show where images of Van Gogh and his paintings would crawl across the walls, coming to life to accompanied by a beautiful score. It was as incredible as it is hard to describe, so please go if it comes to an area near you. My best advice would be to dress warm because it is all displayed through projectors, which need to keep cool to run all day. The show is about an hour and no one minds if you stay for more than one, I was on my third go around when I finally got too cold.

The rainbow effect in this picture was never actually seen by my eyes, it’s a result of my shutter being faster than the projectors. Once I dialed my settings in I was able to get the correct colors, but the rainbow is probably just as cool.

Find things as beautiful as you can.
— Vincent Van Gogh

A woman sits and enjoys the portions of the show where a painting is unveiled one stroke at a time, and eventually becomes part of the painting herself. “Immersive” to say the least.
