TRAVEL

VIK, ICELAND

Icelandic viking #1: What do you want to name our new town?

Icelandic viking #2: Beach.

#1: Beach town? Beach view? Black sand beach?

#2: Beach.

* They briefly stare at each other before one rips the others head off, because it’s the year 948 and that’s how Vikings ended most conversations *

[scene]

Taken in the appropriately named town of Vik, which literally means beach in Icelandic; lava rocks and black sand shine in the afternoon sun. The beach is a mix of regular sand and volcanic ash.

Crouching in the lupines like an Icelandic sniper (that’s not a thing.)

I used a cropped version of this shot as my December image in the 2024 Iceland calendar. It is the only photo chosen that wasn’t originally shot in landscape.

Confusing perspective here, I actually shot the previous shot from the bridge pictured. I was zoomed out there, zoomed in here.

alright time to get focused buddy

Yeah I’m out on that thank you though

probably a spectacular view from up there

It’s… not a huge town to say the least. We were only there for about an hour, more of a pit stop on the way to Hofn.

I’ll be the first to say it - the art in Iceland was weird as f***.

S C A L E .

I will likely never be back to Vik but it was a pleasure.
