SPRINGMAID RAYS

The Sunday before the blizzard was the calm before the storm as the sailors would say.

65 degrees and sunny, with just enough clouds in the sky to allow the sun to set in spectacular and dramatic fashion. I ran my usual play, a smoothie at Zardin then a trip to Springmaid Pier, which gets my vote for the best $3 you can spend in town.

Speaking of voting, I am entering the photo below in to the 2025 Images of the Grand Strand photo contest, held annually by Grand Strand Magazine. I wrote about that contest and a bit about that photo specifically here.

The skies took on a life of their own as the sun slowly returned home for the evening. The quickly shifting cloudscape created different shapes of emptiness amid the dark, puffy clouds, allowing for glorious - spiritual even - rays of light to splash on the lucky spots below. You can see people enjoying the show from the beach in it’s glow; that is the Myrtle Beach State Park behind them, likely their digs for the night.

The view from Springmaid Pier facing north. No idea what that guy is doing.
